NDBUS is visiting their 90 Ward Committees in DCC Area

The Central committee members have started visiting 90 Ward Committees from 24th August, 2008 to mobilize their organization for better networking and more purposeful organizational activities. These aspects in detail are –

1. Dissemination of Changes in the Organization and Programmes plus Future Activities
i. BOSC is going to be registered as NDBUS with the Government of Bangladesh
ii. NDBUS is presently supported by DIG under its URBIS programme for Capacity Building of NDBUS where CUS is working as implementing partner
iii. The project is progressing well
Future Activities
a. From October 2008 NDBUS will be shifting to their new office
b. The office will coordinate with all the members of NDBUS in Dhaka
c. The office will also carry on networking with other organizations in Bangladesh and abroad
2. Assessment of Present Ward Committees
The Central Committee Members of NDBUS, have divided themselves into six groups to visit all 90 Wards within 6 days with the following purpose;
a. Providing up-to-date information, progress and possibilities of NDBUS under the URBIS programme of DIG, implemented by CUS
b. Collection of contact numbers of ward committee members
c. Reform/Reorganize the committees (where necessary)
d. Status of linkages with the Primary committee(s)
3. Survey on formation of a Savings Fund from the millions of NDBUS Members
a. Assessment of NDBUS members (at ward level) to find their willingness to make a small contribution for NDBUS
b. The fund is to mobilize them and make them contribute to creation of a database, increase the solidarity as an NDBUS awrd member. Also to impress on them even if they change their within Dhaka city area their membership and activities will continue.
4. Survey on formation of smaller groups interested in Savings for Housing only
a. Assessment of NDBUS members (at ward level) whether they are willing to come forward with savings for their housing schemes
b. NDBUS will help them mobilize the housing fund, make it grow and draw up housing programmes with support of professionals.
5. Listing of NDBUS’s Skilled Members and with Potential for Supporting NDBUS
a. NDBUS Central committee members are visiting with a format for listing skilled NDBUS members at ward levels
b. After receiving (filled in) forms, NDBUS will support mobilization of their skilled members
All the above activities will help NDBUS prove that they are going to be organized as a legal entity under URBIS Capacity Building Support Project, implemented by CUS for Development Innovations Group (DIG). They will be further benefited by the following outputs;
a. Production of NDBUS Brochure
b. Production of newsletter
c. Preparation of NDBUS Member’s Database

Mushroom training concludes on 29th January with selection of two trainers of NDBUS

After providing training to three groups consisting of 45 members, NDBUS agreed to select trainers from their own resources on mushroom culture. They will train new members as well as start up mushroom cultivation in a big scale. With a view to select trainers as well as resource person/s among NDBUS members, the project team arranged following selection criteria; i. Interested candidates will have to conduct training at field level in presence of the project trainer for preliminarily qualification; ii. Trainers, after being preliminary qualified, will conduct Mushroom Training at URBIS Training Centre in presence of Project Adviser and a mushroom culture expert; iii. Following the above procedure, the two best ranked persons will be qualified for conducting further mushroom cultivation training for the project and NDBUS. iv. NDBUS is going to open its 3rd day care centre at Pallabi

NDBUS is going to open its third Day Care Centre at Pallabi, Mirpur from the first week of August, 2009 to serve the need of working parents in Pallabi area who are primary committee members of NDBUS. Two other centres are run by NDBUS at Korail and Rayerbazar. These two centres are being financially supported by family members of Salma A. Shafi and some CUS members. Management NDBUS runs the day care centres with advisory support from URBIS Project Adviser Salma A. Shafi. Day care centres have been set up within the slum area, close to the children’s home and are taken care of by female teachers. Main meals of the children are provided by their parents while the program provides snacks (Banana, Bread, Milk, Seasonal Fruits etc.). They are taught with pre-school lessons on alphabets, counting, learning rhymes etc. following a daily routine.
